my larsen trap

Recommended Posts

Beagles that looks like a tody job there mate.

As a catching box, baited with eggs or a rabbit, I think it would work just fine. Although I can't see if there is a spot on the central frame somewhere to lodge the other end of the 'collapsing perch'.

However as a full Larsen I think you might have a problem as I don't think that half of that box would be big enough for the legal minimums for the call bird compartment. By the look of it though you've not divided it and have mesh all over the top so maybe a single catching box was all you had in mind.

Credit top you mate, you're having a good go at a few traps.

I see richie  Cool.

Looks even more better now beagles :tongue2: You might want to consider mshing the floor as a fox will be able to either push it and get in or dig its way through.....and we dont want your magpies becoming Charlies Lunch now do we :laugh:

WELL MATE ,

PERSONALLY ............. I WOULD CHANGE THE TRAPPING DOOR MAKING IT SMALLER ABOUT HALF THAT SIZE , REALLY YOU WANT THE BIRD TO DROP IN ON THE PERCH AND HIT THE FLOOR , AND THE DOOR HALF CLOSED AT THAT TIME ABOVE IT

NEXT I WOULD PLY WOOD AN AREA OF THE CALL BIRD COMPARTMENT FOR SHADE , COVER FROM THE ELEMENTS , ......... WET KILLS MORE MAGGIES THAN OWT ELSE !

ALL THE BEST

and your going to bait it with that dead dog :D

   You B*stard, Moles! I was going to say that!

Ye doing a cracking job there, Beags! Well done, mate! :good:

As DW says, the door could be a little less 'full'. I'd take it ye'll have heard to protect ye Call Bird by now. Provision of food and water is also obvious. I'd just add that someone on here ~ I'm sorry I can't now remember who :icon_redface: ~ passed on an excellent tip to us for the water (and why not food!) containers. That being that ye cut a hole in the side of a 2 Litre sort of lemonade bottle. Means the bird can get at the contents without then shitting all over them. Run a search on " Larsen Trap " and see if ye can find the thread. If not, I'll take a shot of my own bottle for ye. Brilliantly simple idea.

I've just now started hearing maggie's about my own land again this last few days. Time to prime my own Larsen again then. I'll make a 'nest' with a couple of handfulls of hay. Plonk a couple of hens eggs in it and just drift a wisp or two of hay over those. I favour that last touch myself ;) Get the b*stards before they get to my beloved Spotted Flycatchers!
